Umbilical Hernia
A hernia that bulges out around the belly button. These are frequently seen in children, especially premature infants. Pediatric umbilical hernias will frequently close spontaneously. They can be safely observed, but should be repaired if they have not closed by the time the child has reached school age.
Adults can also develop umbilical hernias. These can also be safely observed, but should be repaired if they are painful, bothersome, or cosmetically unappealing.
